ARTIST BIO
At 22 years of age, Brisbane producer Callan Alexander, aka cln, has clearly made his mark in the electronic music industry, and if 2015/2016 is any indication of the calibre of work to come, then strap yourself in because you’re in for a real treat.
Having moved to the sunshine state from South Africa back in 2009, Callan has been able to hone his skills and direction as an artist, all the while pursuing his law and science studies at university.
There’s no denying Callan has achieved a lot in a short space of time, especially since the release of his two ep’s, ‘Sideways’ (2014) & ‘Found’ (2015), along with his two most recent singles, ‘Mist’ & ‘Owls’ – one of which has just hit 1 million plays on Spotify with a few others following closely behind.
Callan signed to Paradigm Talent Agency in 2016 for bookings & tours in the USA/ASIA, which soon after lead to his first North American tour in September; a massive nine shows across 14 days where he supported The Chainsmokers at Red Rocks Amphitheatre alongside San Holo, Shaun Frank and Tep No, supported the Keys N Krates in Toronto alongside Lunice, Araabmuzik and River Tiber, as well as performing at Up North and Nocturnal Wonderland festivals.
Back on home soil, cln has supported the likes of The Aston Shuffle, Carmada, ODESZA, and Kele Okereke; front-man of UK group Bloc Party.
2017 has so far been a year of exploration for cln as he extends his compositions into unexpected and exciting new areas. After doing a remix of a track called ‘Peace Is My Drug’ by Australian songstress Katie Noonan, she then invited Callan to perform that song live with her at the Queensland Music Awards in Brisbane, which included aerial silk artists performing overhead.
These two artists enjoyed working together so much that they teamed up again to create a collection of diverse electronic music, which was to be performed live across six sold-out performances at Brisbane Powerhouse with the Queensland Ballet as part of their ‘Bespoke’ program, under the creative direction of renowned choreographer Amy Hollingsworth, and artistic director Li Cunxin.
There is talk of a second season of the “Bespoke” performance, so stay tuned for more news on that over the coming months, as well as a digital release of the music written & recorded by cln & Katie Noonan titled ‘Glass Heart’.
cln has recently released a single called ‘Breathe’ through US imprint NEST, the sister agency of Skrillex’s OWSLA label, which also came with remixes from DEVOTED, X&G and Ellie Herring.
We can expect a few more releases from cln before the year is out, and then start hearing snippets of his debut album that is set for release in 2018.
